PENDANG, 11 July 2019 – The Sultan of Kedah Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah today made his visit to the construction site of Hospital Pendang, a 9-hectare project located in Pendang district, south of Alor Setar. Also present were Tunku Laksamana Kedah, Dato’ Tunku Shazuddin Ariff Ibni Sultan Sallehuddin, Kedah Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Hj. Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir, Yang DiPertua Pendang District Council, Syed Khairol Anuar Syed Abidin and Group Chief Executive Officer of ORANGEBEAM Berhad, Dato’ Faris Yahaya.
Tuanku Sultan met with the Director of Kedah State Public Works Department, Tuan Hj. Ibrahim Bin Ahmad for the model presentation and briefing of Hospital Pendang. The construction is currently in progress, with the surrounding road and drainage and piling works in its way by industry-specialised contractor, ORANGEBEAM Construction Sdn Bhd, a partner company of Seri Libana Sdn Bhd.
“I am pleased to see that we are making progress in the development of the hospital that will serve the health and well-being of the people of the Pendang district. We have made an application for an additional allocation for road and drainage works for the surrounding areas of the hospital to the Ministry of Economic Affairs for their consideration. Given the high levels of anticipation from the Pendang community for the hospital services, we hope for a favourable deliberation from the ministry. I’m confident that the communities in Kedah and the Ministry of Health (MOH) will reap the benefits from the hospital once it is ready,” said Dato’ Seri Hj. Mukhriz.
On May 2018, Public Works Department awarded Seri Libana PPC JV Sdn Bhd, a partner company between Seri Libana Sdn Bhd and ORANGEBEAM Construction Sdn Bhd for the design-and-build development of Hospital Pendang for a contract sum of RM179 million. The Hospital is due to be completed by end of 2021 and is expected to hold a full capacity of 126 beds that will offer 10 specialist services including Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedic, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Anaesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Pathology, Radiology and Psychiatry.
“It is a tremendous honour for ORANGEBEAM to take the lead on a key government hospital. We would like to express our gratitude to PWD and our partner, Seri Libana Sdn Bhd for their trust and confidence in our ability to execute and deliver this project to their expectations and compliant to industry standards. In line with Malaysia’s aspirations to advance with technology and innovation, coupled with our own efforts in disrupting the construction industry, we will execute this project using a full-fledged Industrialised Building System (IBS) to manage costs and time more efficiently. We will also use Building Information Modelling (BIM) LOD 500 to accelerate the overall design and build process,” said Dato’ Faris.
