ORANGEBEAM secures RM85m contract from Westports

18 November 2019

The Malaysian Reserve

ORANGEBEAM Construction Sdn Bhd has secured an RM84.9 million contract from Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd for the construction of its Container Terminal CT9 Yard Zones Y and Z as well as main infrastructure works at the back of CT8/9.

The contract is the latest addition to the company’s outstanding construction orderbook which stands at RM1.4 billion, to be recognised over the next three years.

It is the fourth construction job the company has secured this year, bringing its year-to-date contract wins to RM763 million and an orderbook growth of 34% year-on-year.

Orangebeam group CEO Datuk Faris Yahaya (picture) said the contract marks 18 years of partnership with Westports and a reflection of their trust and confidence in the capabilities and speciality of Orangebeam’s maritime construction.

“In the past, we worked with Westports Malaysia for the construction of its wharf, yard and access bridges. Our builders constructed wharfs CT5 to 9, except for CT8-1, measuring 2.7km and valued at more than RM1 billion.

“We are glad to join forces again and aim to deliver our best for this project according to specifications and timeline,” he said in a statement last Friday.

He also said Orangebeam’s infrastructure capability includes the construction of the raw water supply project in 2014 for Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development, the longest large-size raw water pipeline in Malaysia.

“It was a highly technical 23-month single contract package implementation project that won us the Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Awards in the major infrastructure category in 2018,” he added.

The scope of work will take eight months to complete as it consists of four sectionals namely Zone Z (blocks 1 to 3), Zone Y (blocks 11 and 12), Zone Z (blocks 4 to 7, including sub-station no SS23) and Zone Z (blocks 8 to 12).

The construction works cover earthworks, fencing, roadworks, drainage, building works, electrical and mechanical works, among others.

The project is expected to commence by mid-November and slated for completion by July 2020. Recently, the construction and development company secured a RM177.4 million contract from Bukit Bintang City Centre Sdn Bhd to develop the first Canopy by Hilton Hotels in Malaysia.

The project’s scope of work includes 20 floors of hotel rooms and suites, four floors for various mechanical services, two floors for kitchens and dining areas, one floor for the mezzanine, and one floor for the main and back lobbies.

Canopy by Hilton aspires to grant a modern boutique hotel experience with a capacity of 478 rooms in the trendy entertainment district of Bukit Bintang.

Work on the Hilton brand’s lifestyle hotel commenced on Oct 7 this year and is scheduled for completion in June 2021.

Faris said Canopy will not only bring in investments to the country but also create new jobs and provide people with a great place to stay when visiting Kuala Lumpur.

With over 30 years of experience in delivering highly technical and specialised projects and services, Orangebeam has completed more than RM14.1 billion worth of projects in total.
